Most often used to break up rocky surfaces or other hard surfaces such as concrete or hardened dried earth. The large momentum of a heavy pickaxe, combined with the small contact area, makes it very effective for this purpose.

Cutter Mattock

The cutter mattock is a versatile landscaping tool, as it can be used to both dig soil and chop through roots. It is also well adapted for trail construction, gardening and other outdoor work.

Pick Mattock

This tool is particularly suitable for digging or breaking up moderately hard ground. Excellent for gardening, path work, and archaeological excavation.

Sledgehammer

The sledgehammer is the tool of choice for construction/demolition work. Sledgehammers are also used when substantial force is necessary to dislodge a stuck object. Another common use is for driving fence posts into the ground.

Splitting Maul

As the name implies, this tool is perfect for splitting wood, and is much better than a typical axe. The heavy weight is more advantageous and due to its width, it is less likely to become stuck in the wood.
